Against Economics: Rethinking Political EconomyPointing out a number of elisions inherent in economic analysis, this text covers class blinkers, to gender and culture blinkers, to methodological failings, philosophical errors and political and paradigmatic biases. The work is aimed primarily at a de-mystification of the discipline by means of a critical exploration of various fields, ranging from economic theory and economic history to history of economics and development economics. Questions are raised about the utility of economics and the efficacy of science generally, carrying the necessary message of De Omnibus Dubitandum in matters of social theory. Ultimately, the derivative of the study is a plea to begin the process of rethinking political economy, stripped of its misapprehensions. |
