JAN JANSE' VERKERK, or VERKERKEN. Married: Mayke Gisberts in Holland. She died, 1688.

Jan Janse Verkerken, with his wife Mayke and five children, came to America in the ship "Rosetree" in 1663 from Buren or Buurmelzen, on the river Linge, in Guilderland, Holland. He settled at New Utrecht, N. Y., where he owned large tracts of land.

He is on the Assessment Rolls of New Utrecht in 1675, '76, '83, and '93; he was magistrate in 1678 and 1684; on Dongan's Patent in 1686; in the Census of 1688; and took the oath of Allegiance there in 1687. His will is dated Nov. 10th, 1688.

He is the common ancestor of the family in America. Children: Roelof Janse, born 1654. Married Catherine Simons, Aug. 7th, 1681, and lived in the old stone house on the farm lately owned by the Van Duyne family, Flatbush.

BAREND JANSE VERKIRK or VANKIRK, (Jan Janse1).

Married: 1689, Rachel Jacobse VanderGrift or Vandegrift, daughter of Jacob Leendertsen and Rebecca Frederickse (Lubbertsen) Vandegrift.

Barend Verkerk took the oath of allegiance in New Utrecht, in 1687. He moved to Bensalem, Bucks Co., Pa.,

probably in 1695, and was a member of the Dutch Church of Bensalem as late as 1710. He is given as a member of the Nashaminy Dutch Church in 1719.

Children: Johannes, bapt. in New York, April 2nd, 1695.

JACOB LEENDERTSEN VANDEGRIFT.

Married: Rebecca Frederickse Lubbertsen, in New Amsterdam, July 19th, 1648, a daughter of Frederick Lubbertsen of Brooklyn, N. Y.

Jacob Vandegrift was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Brooklyn in 1664. He moved to New York and was elected Schepen in 1673.

He was one of the patentees of Newtown in 1686. Children: Marretje Jacobse, bapt. Aug. 29th, 1649, married Cornelius Corsz Vroom, March 11th, 1666.

LUBBERTSEN.

FREDERICK' LUBBERTSEN, born, 1609.
Married: 1st, Styntje

2d, Tryntje Hendricks, Aug. 17th, 1657. She was the widow of Cornelius Pietersen (Vroom).

Frederick Lubbertsen emigrated to America and was living in New Amsterdam as early as 1639. In 1641 he was one of twelve appointed to deal with Indian troubles. May 23d, 1640, he obtained a patent for a large tract of land embracing the greater part of South Brooklyn, and Sept. 4th, 1645 a patent for another large tract in Brooklyn to which he removed with his family. He was magistrate of Brooklyn from 1653 to 1655, and again in 1673. His will is dated Nov. 22d, 1679.

Aeltje, bapt. July 25th, 1660. Married Cornelius Sebringh.
