Excerpt from The Natural History of Religious Feeling: A Question of Miracles in the Soul

The deductions made from this assumption are of the gravest import. It is alleged, or im plied, that those who have had the experience of conversion are the chosen of God, that they are so changed in nature as to have become new crea tures, are the children of God, and are destined to an eternity of blessedness; while those who have not had the experience are the rejected of God, are children of Satan, and are destined to an eternity of woe. Consequences so momentous would naturally give pause to a person of proper sensibility, before adopting the premises from which they are drawn.
